Designed for the United States Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville Alabama, the Orion sculpture accurately depicts the real constellation in a scaled 3D space. The constellation was hung in the main USSRC atrium on June 21, 2019. The design was chosen in order to inspire creativity, wonder, and passion for the stars. The globes were made of 1/8” acrylic and could be taken apart to access the LED inside. 1” diameter aluminum rods connect each sphere with the help of a bracket to make assembly easier. The rings that surround the constellation are 17ft and 12ft in diameter and have a one direction laser cut star pattern on them. This allows light to pass through thus creating small cast shadows on the surrounding walls.
